How did you get into modeling?
I started modeling when I was 20, during university in London. A photographer I met over friends asked me if he could take some pictures & with those I applied at agencies.
What has been your greatest achievement?
Since I was little I admired the beauty and poise of women in pageants & dreamt of being one of them... In 2010 this dream came true when I won the national pageant and represented Germany in Las Vegas at Miss Universe. An amazing experience!
When your not in front of the camera, what do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I love to travel. So far I actually lived in 5 countries on 2 continents & hop on a plane to experience a different country and culture whenever I can. One of the best trips I had was when I went to China to the Kunyu Mountain International Shaolin Martial Arts Academy for a month. I trained hard every day & fell in love with the beautiful landscape and people... I hope to be back someday. Apart from that I love skiing. I've been on the slopes since I'm 4 years old and am set on breaking my speed record of 98.3km/h this coming winter!
Who is your inspiration?
My inspiration is my parents. They are amazing and have always been there for me unquestioningly. They give me strength and guidance whenever I need it.
Do you have any diet or beauty tips?
During the week I watch my diet & try to avoid carbs. Lots of vegetables & fish... however, I do enjoy my Sundays where I have Pizza, Chocolate or whatever takes my fancy. I go running twice a week and go to the gym 1-2 times/week. Sometimes it's hard to motivate yourself but you just have to remind myself how good you feel after physical exercise... it really does make you happy and you feel great afterwards! (Especially when you see the results of your hard work!)
What advice would you give to aspiring models?
Stay true to yourself & never do anything that you feel uncomfortable with, usually your gut feeling is right! Also, it does take a lot of effort & hard work to build a career as a model, have patience & stamina in the first couple of years, don't expect a huge income when you are just starting out and don't let rejection at castings make you feel down. It's not about you as a person but the look they are after, you might be perfect for the next job!
What do you think it takes to become a successful model?
This goes hand in hand with the previous question. Life as a model is 90% not glamorous; it takes hard work & dedication. You can be as pretty as you like but if you are unpunctual, impolite, unreliable or impatient clients will probably not book you twice. Go to bed early, look after your figure & skin & don't smoke! It's also helpful to apply at agencies abroad. You can build a great book by having test shoots in different countries; I got my best pictures in Milan and Melbourne in Australia.
What are your future goals?
My future goals are varied. I love modeling and will continue doing that but have also taken up acting (see IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm4848249/ ) which I enjoy very much so I'm doing classes & am working on my show reel. Apart from that I'm also working on the prototype & launch of a new product I came up with. I have a BA (Hons) in International Business & love applying that knowledge to start-ups and new ideas and it's fantastic that working as a model gives me the freedom to do that, too!
